That's what I mint!

One of my favorite fashion colors this year has been green. In the fall I crushed on shades of emerald spearmint, and seafoam. Now that spring is around the corner, the icy hue of pastel mint takes front and center. This is evidenced by designers like Catherine Malandrino, Christian Siriano (Project Runway) and Mulberry as well as most ready-to-wear retailers who have incorporated the refreshing color into their lines. These Ann Taylor mint brocade pants with silver threading that I am wearing were not only on-trend, but were only $11! Will you wear green this spring?

THINK MINT

In the abstract...

It seems that abstract art, especially from the mod 60's, has been the muse for this spring's fashion. Designers like Gucci and Marni are incorporating strong triangles and highly geometric lines of color into their lines. While I am not a big fan abstract art, I do like the strength and boldness it has provided to the latest fashions. Therefore, when I found this abstract t-neck on the sales rack at J.Crew I snagged it. I was drawn to the pop of magenta it provided on the neutral black background. Plus the same print is being used in some of their Collection pieces as well so it felt like I was actually getting a runway piece!

Nautical Know-How

I am not a winter person and there are very few things I like about January and February - my kids' birthdays and preppy clothing. It seems to be the only time of year you can count on for classically colored clothing - red, white and blue. I know it's because it's resort-wear time so the theme is nautical, but seriously? Why can't we get some nautical  fashion when we actually go to the beach? Like in June and July? But since the fashion gods rarely hear me, I guess I need to buy my preppy resort-wear right now. Hmmph...

Pink, Orange and Red

When you read my title did you think "yuck"? I know I would think that if I didn't see it for myself. So yes, I mixed pink, orange and red together. This J. Crew skirt was begging for a fun accessory to match the in-your-face boldness of the houndstooth print. And while I tried lots of other colors, the red of my chandelier necklace seemed to hit the spot. Or rather the tooth. Ha!

Will you be bold this spring?

Tutu Princess

As I mentioned last week, my daughter and husband attended a Daddy-Daughter dance at the elementary school. I could not resist posting these pictures because my daughter, like her mom, has a style all her own. She had to have the biggest tutu we could find for this dance! And even though we received it weeks ago, she didn't wear it until the night of the dance so that she could surprise her dad. Don't they make a cute couple?

Black Purple Pop!

Today is a big day for my little girl. It's the Daddy/Daughter dance and boy is she excited! For her birthday she asked for the biggest tutu I could find on Etsy and she has not worn it once, because she wants to surprise her Daddy tonight. Since my son and I will be alone tonight we have big plans as well - Legos!

It is so sweet to spend these moments with our kids and such a great way to start the weekend. I hope you have a memorable weekend as well!

Texture Play

One of the hottest fashion trends right now is playing with texture and patterns. Today I paired some tweed pants with a quilted faux-leather jacket and snakeskin booties. The blocks from the quilted jacket are replicated in the blocks of the tweed pants. And the smoothness of the leather is counteracted by the coarseness of the tweed and snakeskin. I will admit that I didn't do this on purpose necessarily, but you have to admit that it's pretty clever, huh? LOL!

Slouchy Chic

As you know, I am all about the deal so when I saw these slouchy pants on the Zara.com website for only $40 I was quick to order my size. I am glad, too, because I get more compliments on these pants, especially from younger women. And I agree. They are both comfortable and warm. Modern yet functional. But most of all they are not skinny jeans!

What's the problem with skinny jeans, you ask? They are made for skinny people. And ladies, we all know that skinny is nearly impossible unless you have the genes and the willpower. Neither of which I have. Which is why I like these slouchy pants :)

President's Day

Happy President's Day! What does one wear for President's Day? Red, white and blue? I guess so but it really didn't occur to me until I began writing my post so I hope blue and green is ok! And maybe a little leopard print? LOL!

Anyway, another spring trend alert is the white dress. Just like your little black dress, white is your go to frock this spring & summer, specifically in a ladylike material such as lace, crochet or eyelet. Check out the great ones I found below.

SHOP FOR A LITTLE WHITE DRESS

Sunny Sunday

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! It's a long one for the kids and therefore a long one for mom. But I'm not complaining. I get tired of homework as well.

I have been obsessed with little black dresses lately. Although we all have one or two already, I found that I needed an update since black has been "out" for awhile now. I found this Vince Camuto for $40 at Dillard's. I figured the price was right and who doesn't need an extra LBD?

Have a nice long weekend!

SHOP LBD'S

Red, Plaid & Blue

The key to being on-trend right now is in the mixing of patterns and clashing of colors. It's easier than you might think! When mixing a pattern, just make sure the pieces share at least one common color. Both my tee and blouse have red in them and the blouse and the herringbone pants both have grays.

When color clashing, just throw in an unexpected pop of color with your accessories. For this outfit I chose teal pumps. But you can throw in a purse or chunky jewelry in opposing colors. The trick is to make sure nothing "hurts" the eye.

Despite my outfit not being matchy, matchy, it still works because everything seemingly blends together in the eye of the beholder. But you know what the real trick is? Check yourself in a full-length mirror before leaving the house. If what you see is "stressful", change! Quickly!

Have a great weekend everyone!

No more spam!

There are very few certainties in life. However, if there is only one thing I can be sure of it's this: I will have at least 100 spam e-mails in my inbox each day! Ever since I began this blog, I have become quite the web surfer. I admit that I have signed up for more than my share of e-mail subscriptions. But seriously, does everyone have to sell their e-mail address lists?

I have gotten so used to hitting the "junk" or "delete" buttons that I am pretty sure I have unsubscribed myself from lists that I really want to see. Shouldn't it be illegal to spam people by now? The worst part is that the same e-mails I mark as spam just keep coming back to me with a different sender address day after day. I am sick, sick, sick of it! So please, if you know what I can do to get rid of this problem, let me know!

Shew! I just had to vent a bit. Have a great day...spam or no spam ;)
