Winter White

For the past few years, the fashion industry seems to have restructured itself and become open to more self-expression with fewer rules. For instance, white jeans. Used to be you didn't wear white after Labor Day and never before Memorial Day. But now the fashion industry tells us that this "rule" is no longer relevant. They want us to wear white jeans. They want us to break the rules and express ourselves. Well, here you go fashion industry: a white blazer after Labor Day. (It wasn't too painful ;)

WEAR WINTER WHITE

Glamour Ghoul

My hubby and I embarking on a romantic date night. LOL!
Glamour gal or ghoul?
I warned you on Sunday that I was not very creative when it came to Halloween costumes. That's mostly because I like to dress nice at all times. You would think I could let loose just once a year, huh? I tried, I really did. But when I found this witch's hat half price that day, all I could think was "yay! I can wear a black cocktail dress rather than the matching purple pirate costume I hijacked from my neighbor!".  Sigh. Maybe next year...
BTW, my husband was not pumped to wear his purple pirate costume. He's a good sport ;)

Cozy Couture

An animal print sweater over a striped shirt.
A yellow belt adds a pop of color.
wool skirt keeps you cozy.
Although the sun was shining today and it looked like a typical fall day, it wasn't. It was very cold and very windy. I really shouldn't complain though. Many of you are dealing with the effects of Hurricane Sandy as it blasts the Eastern Seaboard. I hope that everyone stays safe. My prayers are with you.

Navy & Turquoise with a pop!

A polka dot cardigan is unexpected, yet sweet.

I love these turquoise Joe's Jeans.

Colorful handbags add pop! to my outfit.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! The hubby and I partied like it was 1999 Saturday night when we went to a friend's Halloween costume party. About half the guests were dressed as rednecks. We partied with Honey Boo Boo, Momma June, Duck Dynasty, The Turtle, and some "fat granny" who had sat on her Chihuahua! It was a blast!

Unfortunately, I am not that creative when it comes to Halloween costumes so we did not go as rednecks or any other celebrity. But if you tune back in on Halloween, I'll post photos of our costumes. Next year, I plan on actually doing some work on my costume...!

Turtlenecks and Cords = Fall Fabulous

Suede is the perfect fall fashion accessory.

Another classic for fall is the cord pant. Paired with turtlenecks and accessorized with suede, cords are a no-fail fashion DO. You really can't go wrong.  For your corduroy fix, try it in skinny jeans, cargo pants, boot cut cords, and even stretchy corduroy leggings. But don't forget about corduroy dresses and blazers. Look for corduroy fashions in black or brown and bold colors like red, blue, green, purple, and gold. Most importantly, find something corduroy that you really love and make a style that is all your own.

Red Heat

Classics, like this red Gap blazer & blouse, never go out of style.

Pearls, like these from J. Crew, are a woman's second best friend. Wear them day or night.

Bowling bags, like this from Banana Republic, are a fashion must.

The heat is on and I am not just talking about the above average temperatures around here! I am talking the color red. It's everywhere right now. But I must confess: I have never been a fan of red.  That's because so many red's have an orange undertone. And orange looks like death on me. However, I have always known that red with blue undertones is more suitable for me. It's often hard to fine though since "primary" colors, or jewel-tones, have been out of style since the '80s.

although I am not a fan of '80s fashion, I welcome this '80s version of red. Welcome back, RED!

Tied for black and blue

Romantic? Edgy? Or romantically edgy?

Tie blouses are great for both casual & elegant ensembles.

Patented glam.

It's still fall break for the kiddos and I find myself longing for some me time. The funny thing is that they aren't necessarily being demanding or loud. They are just there and I'm not used to having someone there. Do you get my drift? Good. Because tomorrow no one will be there and the universe will be back to normal.

Brightly So in orange and navy

A bright orange skirt from The Limited is the perfect backdrop for Fall dressing.

This Peter Pan-collared sweater from J. Crew is on perfectly polished.

Don't leave the house without a clutch. I'm wild about this one from The Limited.

Today's theme is recycling. You may recognize this skirt from some summer outfit posts. I have updated it with a light sweater and boots for a Fall-appropritate look. That's the great thing about Fall styling - you can recyle key pieces from your summer wardrobe by pairing them with sweaters, boots, scarves, jackets and chunkier textures and darker colors. It's all about paying it forward!

Which of your Summer faves will you re-style for Fall?

Lilac and Black

There's not a more versatile outfit than skinny pants, a blouse & a boyfriend sweater
Accessories can be used to dress this outfit up or down.
Bright colors for a colorful fall day.
Thumbs up for eggplant colored suede pumps.
Today was such a beautiful day. We had brunch, jumped on the trampoline, had a Ninja battle, ate Halloween candy and had a laid-back-do-what-you-want kind of day.

I hope yours was just as good!

Polka Dots & Leopard Spots

...with a glass of bordeaux.
Neutral navy.
A sassy clutch.
Who knew polka dots were for grown-ups? I've always liked them but certainly would never wear them past the age of 12. But the fashion gurus of the world decided that age barriers be damned and let the dots dominate Fall '12 fashion. So of course, I listened to these gurus and you know what? I still feel like a grown-up in my oversized polka dots!

Will you wear polka dots?

Chevron, Magenta & Spearmint

A fun chevron print paired with pastel skinnies is a fashion Yes!
The pastel craze from Spring carried forward.
Clutches in bright colors? Heaven!
Suede booties are a favorite for Fall/Winter fashion.

This past spring I made the comment that chevron is the new stripe. Well to judge by what's in the stores right now, I think I was right. I was smitten with this J. Crew chevron sweater the moment I spotted it in the store. And to strengthen my desire, the salesperson informed me that all sweaters were 25% off that day. Bam! I was sold. And the rest? It's history because they are sold out of this sweater!

Opposites attract

Black and white, fashion's power couple, is back.
Break up the starkness of a B&W outfit by throwing in a print.

Bowling bags aren't just for bowling.

Two-toned boots are super stylish.
Black and white. White and black. It's been a long time since this trend has dominated the fashion world. Hopefully it hasn't been so long that you have gotten rid of all of your black and white pieces. If so, don't despair. This trend is everywhere and fortunately, it is super easy to embrace.

Just look for black and white stripes or layer a black sweater over a crisp, white blouse. Still aching to wear your favorite white jeans? Do it! Just wear something black with them like a dolman sleeve tee or chunky sweater. And don't forget the accessories. We all have nearly as many, if not more, black shoes as we have little black dresses. So dust them off and don those black duds!

What is your favorite noir y blanc look?

Oxblood with navy & green

Stripes are everywhere...still.
Oxblood red is Fall 12's IT color.
Heavy metal rocks this Fall.
I think it is safe to say that Fall is officially here. The leaves have turned with beautiful shades of red, yellow, orange and purple popping up everywhere. And with Fall comes these same beautiful shades found in clothing, makeup and home decor. Oxblood, or deep red, is extremely popular right now. The depth of this red hue is perfect as a base color for your outfits. Try it with cream, black, mint or purple. Use your imagination. The possibilities are limitless as will be the compliments.
