We all have one. We all automatically reach for it when we dress each day.  I am talking about the little white tee, the muse for my outfits for the next three weeks. Yes, I said 3. I decided to make a list of all the ways to wear a white tee and I came up with about 15. 

Today's outfit features a sexy, leather pencil skirt. Leather is hot, hot, hot right now and what better to pair it with for a laid back look than a little white tee? I will warn you though. Leather is hot to wear, so save this one for a cool day like today.

Animal Print & Red Leather

Casual Monday

Lovin' all things "leather" right now.

A spikey necklace provides even more edge.

I can't explain it. All I can say is that I do. Love "leather", that is. And I say leather in quotes because now that it is a hot commodity, I can't afford the real thing. Thank goodness for PU. No, it's not the smell! PU stands for polyurethane leather or faux leather. 

But I do love it. It is a very unexpected yet pleasant change from all of the color blocking and color clashing of the past year. The best part is, you don't have to get decked out in full-on leather. You can get great fall pieces that use a mix of leather and fabric. Look for sheath dresses with leather piping or a black tee with leather sleeves (see below for my fave). The possibilities are endless.

Most all of us have a LBD in black, but how about a LBD in brown leather? When I saw this leather dress by Vince Camuto at Belk, I just knew I had to have it! It is so luxurious and chic, but with an edge. My first outing in it was on Sunday so I decided to soften the look with pearl strands, a sweet structured purse and ankle strap pumps. But if I ever get a chance to wear it on a date night, there won't be any girly-girl stuff going on!

Purple, Green & Leopard Print

Green is good.

Animal prints live on this fall.

True to form, rich purples & burgundies are again fall faves.

I never thought I would buy leopard print pants. But when I found these on sale at J. Crew, I couldn't resist (warning: chronic deal shopper in vicinity). And although they are linen, I specifically wanted them for my fall wardrobe. I think linen is too hot for the summer, but perfect for fall temps (maybe I'm a trendsetter..?). 

But I digress. Green is making a comeback this fall with it's wonderful jewel-tones of the kelly and teal varieties. And as always, deep purple continues to dominate fall accessories for that rich accent every fall outfit needs. These two jewel-tones, paired with the neutral tones of the leopard pants, make for a very sophisticated, fun outfit.

The shirt-dress redone

Layering is essential for Fall comfort.

Layer those bracelets.

The shirt-dress peaking out adds an element of fun and sexiness.

Loafers are big this year. Nude ones are great with rich fall colors.

So I tried a little something new today that I have seen in the fashion magazines. I put a tweed skirt on over my shirt-dress. I really liked the dimension it added to my outfit. The tweed skirt, another fall essential, was pretty work-like so I added a tough leather vest and belt to keep a casual feel to it. The loafers were thrown on for comfort, but accentuated the preppiness of the shirt-dress. I felt good in it. It was a fun way to try something new.

A versatile denim vest is perfect for fall's moderate temperatures.

Although it rained today, the sun made an appearance around 1 o'clock and a cool breeze stayed in the air. That could only mean one thing...fall clothes! I dug out these Banana Republic houndstooth trousers from my office days (yes, they are very, very old) and jazzed them up with a striped tee and denim vest. Who knew that houndstooth and stripes could be paired together? Well, that's what blogging does to a girl - it gets her creative juices flowing.

A light-weight cotton blouse in plaid is always a good fall staple.

Statement jewelry is key to making outfits fun.

A glitzy bag isn't just for nighttime anymore.

It seems that plaid is a fall staple. Without fail, many designers and retailers include at least a little bit of plaid into fall fashions each year. This year is no excection. While plaid may not be in the Top 10 Fall '12 trends, I have seen it used as a layering piece as part of the mixed pattern trend. 

I especially like this plaid blouse I picked up at the J. Crew Factory Store. It is made from light-weight cotton. (Those of you from the South know how rare that is so you best get you one!). In my desire to be both trendy and comfy, I opted for a ponte knit (stretchy and comfy) pencil skirt and a bit of glitz - both BIG must-haves.

 As you may already know, vivid color from this past winter and spring has taken root and will not be going anywhere anytime soon. The great thing about Fall though is that the colors take on a deeper, richer hue. Red becomes crimson, green becomes teal, purple is an eggplant color...you get the picture. So it's no surprise that Belk's Fashion's Night Out fashion show displayed the vivid hues from our favorite designers - Vince Camuto, Jessica Simpson, Calvin Klein and the like. And speaking of colors, the Magnolia Bakery cupcakes display was pretty vivid and pretty yummy, too!
