Mod in Pink & Orange

Loving the 60's vibe of this Trina Turk tunic.
A casual handbag for a casual day.

I hope everyone's having a wonderful Thursday! I am looking forward to a long weekend but once it's over, Donna and I will be gearing up for Fashion's Night Out.

On September 6th starting at about 6pm, retailers, designers, stars, and fashionistas from around the world will be featuring special events such as fashion shows, parties, limited-edition products, special prices, swag bags and much more!

Two Shopper Moms and the Williamson Source will cover the event from Belk at Cool Springs Galleria where there will be a fall fashion show, refreshments (hint: Dylan's Candy Bars), entertainment, and giveaways. But Belk won't be the only retailer celebrating this special night. The mall and individual retailers such as J. Crew and Gap will feature special events as well.

So join us on Thursday, September 6th for all the fun!

A simple shirt dress

A shirt dress can be both casual and chic
A structured bag is all business
A shirt dress should be a staple in every woman's closet whether they are in style or not. They are both sporty and sexy at the same time. Sporty because they can be dressed down with tennis shoes and worn in place of sweats for a natural, comfortable look.  And sexy because what guy, husband's included, doesn't like like to see a lady in a man's shirt?

So ladies, whether you are running to the grocery store, driving your kids to sporting events or volunteering, don your best shirtdress. You will appear casually chic to all the other moms and may garner a glance or two from some hubbies, yours included!

Fringe & Handkerchief Print

Handkerchief prints help make a bold statement.
Is it just a fringe skirt or is it a hula skirt in disguise? :)
Like I said last week, I love this skirt. While it's not the most sensible clothing purchase for a mom (read: hard to get in and out of your SUV without falling or flashing everyone), it sure does make me feel young to have twirl around in my fringe skirt.

And that's what fashion is really about - looking and feeling your best. And when you look and feel good, you generate self-confidence. So why not seize the day and buy a frivolous clothing item that makes you look and feel good?

Carpe diem, everyone!

Polka Dots & Pencil Skirts

I love classic looks like that of a pencil skirt.

Structured purses? Yes, please!
I have way too many pencil skirts. This navy polka dot one from the J. Crew Factory store is the latest in my collection.

I just can't help myself: the pencil skirt flatters every type of figure with its ability to lengthen and slim. And the cut transcends time and trends to remain one of the most classic skirts of all time. It can be worn with heels or flats. As part of a suit or solo. With any type of top, especially peplum tops which are the hottest of trends right now. And the close fit makes it warmer and less likely to blown up by gusts of wind (bet you didn't realize that, huh?). So with so many accolades, it's no wonder I'm addicted!

Always a sucker for seersucker
This charm bracelet goes with everything.
Although I am chomping at the bit to wear some of the new Fall fashions, summer is still here in all its hot glory! Sadly, I will continue to wear summer clothes in my posts because if I were to wear any new fall fashions, I would surely melt. And I can't go naked...

What are you wearing in this hot August weather?

Fringe & Beads

When I saw this fringe skirt on the Zara.com website I knew I had to have it! It's both feminine and edgey and because blue is a neutral color, I can wear it with just about anything. Today I wore a beaded tee with it because I liked the fusion of vertical and horizontal stripes. But because there is so much going on, I kept the accessories simple with navy flats, a navy tote and just one bracelet.

On a side note, did you know that Duchess Kate Middleton buys a lot of her clothes from Zara? I didn't until recently. You should check it out. They have great prices, free shipping & returns and fantastic quality.

Go Orange & White!

As most everyone has figured out by now, orange (or tangerine if you prefer) was named the color of the year for 2012. And it's not just for fashion. Home fashions have touted the vibrant hue in everything from pillows to couches to paints. But those of you from Tennessee know that orange has been prominent for much longer in our state.  So I'll just say it: "Go Vols!".

And there you have it folks. Us Tennesseans have been "en vogue" for a very, very long time. It just took the design world a lot longer to figure out how amazing the color orange really is ;).

Black & white animal print

Animal print. It's recently become one my favorites. Until now, many animal prints just looked cheap and gaudy. But now almost every fashion brand has produced at least one animal print item which means more variety and more luxe items. This sweater from Banana Republic really caught my eye. It boasts both the animal print and black with white trends that are dominating the runways. So,
whether it is a super luxe sweater, pointy shoes or a structured handbag, you should make this leap into the wild with me.

Channeling the classics

I love polka dots! It's a nice change from stripes, don't you think?

I was channeling the classics today - a tie blouse, a structured purse, an a-line skirt, linked jewelry, t-strap shoes. All very classic details that will never go out of style but yet are exactly what is "in" this fall. Lady-like is the catch phrase used for fall '12 styles. Other lady-like trends to watch for are peplum, fitted blazers, quilted accessories, and pointy-toe shoes.

Are you channeling polka dots or lady-like clothing these days?

Nautical Stripes & Accessories

I am so happy to have worked as much as I have this past week. It is so much fun to go shopping and spend someone else's money for a change!

The day started off cool but quickly turned into a scorcher. Needless to say the denim vest came off quick! Happily, the nautical stripe dress with the turquoise statement necklace and the snake print purse still looked chic (if I do say so myself!). And I my bracelet from my Blogger Buddy at Probably Polka Dots helped pull it all together.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! Cheers to power shopping this weekend ;)

Two Blues

As I have said before, I love blue. It's my favorite color.  Thus the blue on blue outfit.

So knowing that I had to shop again yesterday (poor me, right?), I once again needed comfort, cool and professional. But not too professional because shopping is a sport after all. LOL! Anyway, I slipped on my chambray pants, a royal blue striped sparkle tank and some shiny flats. I added a couple of silver bracelets and it was off to the races!

What do you wear shopping? Do you dress up or do you wear functional clothes that allow for some heavy-duty shopping?

Preppy in navy and green

While I am celebrating my kids' return to school, I am also celebrating my ability to work more in my decorating business. Yesterday I went back to work and it was rainy and chilly so I figured it was the perfect opportunity to wear my new navy Minnie ankle pants by J. Crew. Talk about comfort!

Not only did I need the comfort of my Minnies, I needed mobility because my client and I were going...can you guess?...shopping! (My all time favorite sport ;) So I selected a comfortable sleeveless cowl-neck top with ruched sides in green and comfortable blue sandals.

I then jazzed up the outfit with some fun bracelets, grabbed my biggest shopper tote (so glad that nude goes with everything), and was off to the races. Shopping races, that is ;)

My kids went back to school full-time yesterday so it was time to celebrate! A group of moms went and had breakfast at a local cafe and chatted about the teachers, homework, activities, etc. It was so fun and so needed ;).

Blogger Bauble Buddies

...say that 3 times fast!

I am excited to present the bauble I received from my "blogger buddy" Nicole at Probably Polka Dots, a blog about all things southern. The white enamel bracelet she sent me is so cute and so southern and yet so preppy, which of course is what I am. She sent the perfect bauble!
Don't you think it looks like saddle stirrups?
This is my daughter's arm. I couldn't manage the camera with just one hand. Aren't her hands just precious?
I love how the bracelet complemented my white Zara blazer.
When I was trying to think of the right outfit for my new bauble, I knew it had to be one-of-a-kind. I started with wanting some denim because of the horse correlation but I didn't want a plain jane outfit.

That's where the scarf print top from MNG by Mango came in. I just love the yellow, aqua and navy colors that make up the vivid print. And since it was a bit rainy, I saw a great opportunity to wear my Zara blazer. The white of the jacket helped pull the bracelet into the outfit.

But don't forget my teal shoes! They are children's shoes from Crewcuts (why, oh why, do I have such a small foot?) but I found some great adult shoes for you. Just click on "shoes" below.

Summer to Fall #5

Summer neutrals with a pop of color.
Animal print is the new black.
Royal blue is always fashion do.
Fall neutrals with a hint of rust.
The structured purse - a MUST HAVE for this fall.
I really, really like this outfit. This A-line dress is one of my all-time favorites. It works well as either a dress or a skirt. Not to mention that the A-line silhouette is one of the most forgiving - it can both hide and accentuate your body. It's got my vote!

This is it for our summer to fall series. I hope you enjoyed it and gleaned some ideas on how to take your summer wardrobe into the fall. After all, we all have to respect the budget!

Stay-tuned tomorrow for our Bauble Buddy unveiling. What is that, you ask? You'll just have to tune in to see :)
